Dino backpacks, a tie and a headband!

Today is my turn to host TGIFF (Thank Godness Its Finished Friday!) and I have another bag project for my turn this month. I am crushing on these fun little bags that are really so fast!

What is this all about???  Well here’s a squirrel that visited my studio…yup they are sneaking in – thank you Sandra, Wendy, Rose and Paintbrush Studio Fabrics. I love projects for kids and when I saw this line of gorgeous fabric for a Get Sewcial project I had to try. I submitted a proposal and choose 3 patterns they had featured:
The Dino BackPack
The Tie
The Headband

First up are two adorable dinosaur backpacks. I couldn’t resist that some child would just love these and so I made two – one in lavendar and one in blue. The fabric numbers for the Paintbrush Fabric are: 120-20271 (blue dinos), 120-20312 (green clouds), 120-20273 (purple dinos) and 120-20313 (peach clouds). The pattern from Sewing 4 Free was terrific. I only did one or two things different. I did not line the bag and might if it was going to be every day. Because I didn’t line it, I used french seams (you sew wrongs sides together first than right sides together) in order to protect the seams. If I had a serger, I may have used that. I also had to piece my fabric – it is directional!

Aren’t these fabrics just wonderful. I could so see a kid loving leaving the house with a backpack and matching accessory for a little event – a birthday party or church or something fun!

To accompany them, I made two accessories so when the bag had to be away, the dinosaurs could still be with the little one in a tie or headband! You see, my son always carried a pack. It had his life saving epi pen/inhaler and benadryl but a fun pack made it all the better. He had a sheep back pack that we got in England. I know some little one would love these as much as he did! Both these patterns were simple and I am kinding of crushing the headband – there is a pattern for an adult version – and you may see some in my future. I did use a tube turner* on both these projects; it is a life saver.

Thank you to the pattern providers and most especially to Paint Brush Studios for providing the fabric for these fun projects. Also, I am counting this for a DrEAMi project and linking up with the chief Squirrel – Sandra! I am hosting TGIFF and can’t wait to see what you have to share. The linky party is below.
