On this first day of the year, I am taking a look back at 2022 and favorite posts on my blog. Cheryl Brickey at Meadow Mists sponsors this hop every year, and it is fun to take a look back and see what other people liked and what you like. There are 6 selected posts (2 are under one category) which include reader’s favorites, my personal favorites, and two QAL favorites.
The Readers’ Favorites this Year
Everyone loved the Gutcheon Wedding Ring block I chose for scrap quilting this year. I think its attraction is that it is both straight and a little curvy and uses some favorite stash pieces to make it – 2 1/2″ and 3″ blocks. It also makes a great secondary pattern when paired with the same block.
I did make a quilt here with two sets of the blocks. Actually, this post about this quilt was one of the other posts that got a lot of attention. I abandoned the project in April and have some blocks to complete. They will come on retreat and I will make another baby quilt from this.
My Favorite Finish
This was my favorite finish because it was for a dear friend. She picked the fabrics and I worked a little magic with them. I really loved the piano key borders; not something I usually use but it worked so well for this. I felt deeply honored and grateful to my friend for entrusting me with this project.
My Favorite Quick Project
Everything about this colorful bag project made me happy. The pattern was one I picke dup at Quilt Con in 2020, before the world shut down. The border fabric is from a backing for a child’s quilt but it is just enough to enhance the colors in the flying geese. I have yet to use it, but I love looking at.
Two Other Favorite Finishes from QALs
I participated in two QALs, and finished one top on time and one late. First was Yvonne’s Planview Quilt Along. I loved making it and enjoyed the quilting process, which happened quite a bit after the QAL ended. It was one of the first things I quilted after my ankle broke, and I took my time with it and did some new designs.
The second QAL was designed by Sandra @mmmquilts and called Pop Star. I have participated in all her QALs since 2017 and was eager to finish this. Both of these quilts were a part of my healing – knowing that I could get back to doing something that I loved.
Please remember to visit some of the other favorite finishes linked up at Cheryl’s linky party. There is a lot of eye candy there! Thanks to Cheryl for sponsoring this little party and to all those who cheer us along in our quilting and blogging! There is nothing like the support of the quilting community – whether near or far.
