I am so pleased to show you my quilt for the SAHRR 2022- Stay at Home Round Robin 2022. I wanted to finish this block that I made years ago, around 2012, if the book publication is any indication. Above is one of the iterations of what I was thinking about as I made the quilt.
The center block came from this quilt and it hung at Cambridge Quilt Shop for a few years. Now, back to the Stay at Home Round Robin (SAHRR).
We were given a number of prompts each week for blocks to add around our chosen center. I completed the following week’s prompts:
1. Week 1 – Curves. I used Jenn Carlton Bailly’s templates.
2. Week 2 – Diamond. I drew the diamond in EQ8.
3. Week 4 – Signature Block (on back)
4. Week 5 – Applique (well it was already on the center block)
5. Week 6 – Shoo Fly.
For me, this was a perfect way to finish this quilt. The outside frame is closer to a churn dash than a shoo fly block. However, it can depend on what source you look at. If you consult Barbara Brackman’s Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns (3rd edition), 2021, the above pictures are what you find, but the names are cross-referenced. I figure it was in the spirit of things.
I quilted it on my Bernina 570 – doing straight line quilting with my walking foot, some ruler work inside the diamonds, and finally, free-motion stippling in the background of the block. It was fun to sit down at a machine and quilt again.
I thank Gail @ Quilting Gail for running this and all her able assistants: Anja @ Anja Quilts, Emily @ The Darling Dogwood, Roseanne & Sue @ Home Sewn by Us, Wendy @ Pieceful Thoughts of My Quilting Life, and Chris @ Chrisknitssews. It was fun to participate again this year, although I really did not catch up until the end. Now, I am thinking there are many blocks that I can use for next year’s SAHRR, and maybe I will do one that can be a little larger (which means having more coordinating fabric).
