Positive Vibes – A Finished Quilt

This finish makes me so happy. I love knowing so many of us are finishing these quilts. They were designed by Preeti (Sew Preeti Quilts) and are being carefully collected and sent to Bernie(Needle and Foot), who will get them to Mercyful Quilts. A few years ago, we knew a friend was going into hospice and I ran over with a quilt to greet her, when she arrived – Sherry, her children, and other family and friends mentioned how meaningful it was to all of them. We also have other friends and family that used hospice, and I am grateful for what they do.

Tabitha, my Handiquilter Simply Sixteen, and I had a few arguments while I was quilting this quilt. However, all of it was caused by user error. The good news is that I am definitely more comfortable in figuring out workarounds when I make a mistake, so it is not as hard as it once was. The annoyance is when I really should have remembered that I forgot to do a few things, which would have saved me a bit of time.

modernish

The quilting pattern I choose is called “Modernish” from Urban Elementz. I wanted something open, to keep it cozy. I wanted something not floral but rounded. I really think this does a nice job, it sits in the background but is interesting enough in the white space. The thread I used to quilt is Superior So Fine! #494, pastel blue. This thread is one of my favorites, as its sheen is like cotton. Moreover, it is fine enough that it often is chameleon-like in its ability to adapt to a variety of colors on the quilt.

I find it so interesting how each of us adapted the pattern to suit our fancy. Because the size of my machine for quilting is limited, I went with a bit smaller quilt. Mine finished at 47″ x 62″. It is perfect on top of a twin bed and I think will work well for its purpose. I wanted a border as I felt it could use something around the edges to define the quilt.

For this quilt, I ordered a wide back; it means no piecing the back and 2 yards allows me to quilt one or two more lap/baby size quilts from the remainder of the yardage. I love that this has so many of the colors on the front. The design is perfectly whimsical and again, I am pleased with it as a choice for this quilt.

Pretty finish, Kathleen! I love the backing fabric, too!

What a pretty plus quilt, and I LOVE the backing. I think the border really frames it nicely. Is that the 50 wt Superior Threads? I’ve used Superior Threads ever since 2013 when I took a class taught by Angela Walters and she said that’s what she used. 🙂
I’m soaking up every word you have to say about the quilting on the long arm! What size frame do you have?

This will be very special to a hospice recipient. I worked as a hospice RN for a few years and, while hard on the heart at times, it was very rewarding to be a comfort for my families! This is absolutely beautiful. I love So Fine threads and Bottom Line for the bobbin!! Thank you for sharing your quilts with others and thank you for linking up to TGIFF today! Have a great weekend!

Oh, what a wonderful finish! I think the quilting motif is perfect. Before you shared the detail of the motif I thought you had quilted interlocking plus shapes. It’s so lovely getting to see all these finishes that are going to make their way to Bernie. Have a great weekend!

Wonderful gift, Kathleen!!! I love the Modernish, too!!!

Hi Kathleen! What a fabulous Positivity finish. I love everything about it – the white background enhancing the plus signs, the sparkling border, that rad backing (I have that fabric, too!), and especially the nice loose quilting design you chose. I’m not sure if it’s a panto or not but if it is, it would be a fairly easy one to follow. All those nice curves would be something I would like to trace for comfort as well. Beautiful! ~smile~ Roseanne

Beautiful quilt! And the quilting is just perfect! 🙂

I have that backing too! I may have mmm-nabled a few others to get it too when I showed it, lol. Isn’t it fabulous? Fabulous too is that quilting motif! I like the rounded corners. What a great quilt finish and for such a good reason.

A wonderful quilt! Maybe smaller in size, but definitely a quilt large in love!

Great finish. I love seeing all the different interpretations of this quilt. You are absolutely spot on with your quilting design. It really works well. I too am a big fan of So Fine. I’m going to check out that color to see if it is one I have. (It’s nice to have a chameleon thread. Thanks for sharing the color.

Beautiful quilt, Kathleen, and I do think that is a nice size for a hospice bed (and later a lap quilt or topper). The curvy quilting goes so well with the hard edges of the pluses. And the back. What a neat surprise!

Wonderful finish Kathleen!! It is nice to have a variety of sizes in the stack. Families get to choose their quilt and everyone has their own opinions – we like giving choices whenever we can. Love that backing!! Yikes that is a cool fabric. 🙂

Kathleen your Positivity Quilt is just full of colour and quilty hugs. I love the quilting pattern you used. I’ve been curious to see if So Fine would work in my longarm, so next month will try ordering some to test it out. Thank you for sharing your quilt, thoughts and how you plan things out. I’m in love with wide backings for the longarm, too. Here in Canada they are priced from $29.00-39.00 a meter though
