This little piece was really quite fun to do. When you last saw it, it was when I declared it my One Monthly Goal (OMG). This is a picture from Cambridge Quilt Shop and was part of the 2020 Quilter’s Trek. I thought this would be easy to get done and it really was. I quickly made the blocks and decided it would be a wall hanging or table topper, so I didn’t want it too big. My finished piece is about 20″
I added a narrow lattice between the blocks and used one little leftover bit from the heart as a cornerstone. I found this great ombre fabric in the stash that was perfect. I still have plenty of the ombre left for another project.
I used my facing technique as I did not want binding on this. I think it works really well for pieces that don’t need anything additional. You can find out about this technique here.
I love the heart in the center of the “O”. Some quilters call this a “hug block” as it is used in and Xs and Os (Hugs and Kisses) quilt. I think this is perfect as part of the hidden (not so much) message in this piece. The backing was pieced with scraps from the front and another piece that went well with the colors. Also, the quilting was simple – I went around the border, blocks and letters.
I nearly didn’t get this done, and this handsome dude is why. He is the one I really want to welcome home! Percy has been in the veterinary hospital since Wednesday with diarrhea and vomiting. Somewhere over the last few months he has lost 7 pounds. It took 8 hours to get him admitted, between his vet and the hospital being swamped. We need to get him back in our arms, hugs and kisses and lots of great treats to get him back in shape. He is 13, and has Cushings, but we’d love to have some more time with him.
Not sure what next week holds for sewing, but its ok, I took these two months (July/August) slow on quilting commitments. So, I’ll let you know how he’s doing if I post later in the week. I am happily linking up with a few great parties – One Monthly Goal and DrEAMi! I really did put anxiety about Percy away in order to get this finished!
