I am pleased to share with you my finish for the week and celebrate your finishes with Thank Godness Its Finished Friday – TGIFF!. You are welcome to host and there are dates open in July so help us out by signing up here. Its a great incentive to get something done. If you don’t have a finish this week, next weeks host is Gail from Quilting Gail so you can join her there.
This quilt I will show you today is from a pattern called “Follow Your Own Path” from Sandra Walker of mmmQuilts! You can find out more about it here. This pattern is free from the Modern by the Yard Ezine . You can see other versions on Instagram too using this hashtag: #followyourownpathqal.
This is the fifth QAL of hers that I have happily participated in. This quilt is part of my Hands 2 Help contributions to Little Lambs which provides comfort kits to children ages newborn to 17 years old who are transitioning into foster care.
One of my rules for QALs is to use the stash. I didn’t have a background that worked, so I did purchase that but the rest of it was shopped from the stash. I pieced the quilt with Aurifil
My preference was to use the arrows with the dark down, but you can look at these two shots and decide for yourself.
The back was batik a friend gave to me, so I like that it is a way of passing her good will on to another in this quilt.
I put this lovely quilt together and from the start I was pretty sure what my quilting design would be. There is an pantograph on the Prostitcher by Nancy Haacke called Arrows E2E. You can find it at Wasatch Quilting if you don’t have Prostitcher.
I used a Superior Omni #3024 a medium grey on the top and Superior So Fine! #494 Pastel Blue in the bobbin. I am crazy like that, not using the exact same threads in top and bottom, but my Handi Quilter Simply Sixteen* is very cooperative with tension (I probably cursed my next project by saying that).
“Blessings For Your Journey” is what I will call the quilt. I hope this quilt brings blessings to its recipient as they begin a new journey and that it can always be a comfort to the little one that receives it.
