2020 is nearly done and I have one more quilt to show you. Jen Shaffer from Patterns by Jen has run this block of the month for a few years; this is the second year I participated. Last year, I followed along month by month. This year, I was a host, so I had a little of a jumpstart. As a host you get the blocks in the beginning, so you can work ahead. Of course, I didn’t get that far ahead, but enough ahead so that I have a finished quilt before the end of the year.
Here are all 12 blocks as they appeared and the links to the corresponding blog posts. Remember, Jen is starting a new one in 2021 and this one has 2 block sizes…check it out it might strike your fancy! And there is some extra deliciousness too, but do check out her post linked above to find out about it.
I played around in Electric Quilt 8* with my blocks and above are two settings I liked. I like the first with juxtaposition of blocks on point and the white, gray and black background. I chose the second, as it fits my purposes better: 1) fits on my frame without having to do partial piecing of the entire quilt or using the clamping system, 2) I had the right fabric and 3)I think this has more general appeal. Someday, I would like to set a sampler the like the first option.
If you want the particulars for option 2, here they are:
Quilt Finishes at 48″ x 60″
1 1/2 yards of grey
16 – 3 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ strips. (need 6 – 3 1/2″ x WOF)
3 – 2 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ strips. (need 4 – 2 1/2″ x WOF)
2 – 3 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ strips (need 3 – 3 1/2″ x WOF)
5/8 yard binding Binding. (6 strips 2 1/2″ x WOF)
The sampler was quilted on Tabitha, my Handi Quilter Simply Sixteen with Prostitcher. I love this quilting pattern, Modernish 1 by Barbara Becker. I used Hobbs Poly Down* as I wanted to try something with a little loft. You might see some “pokies” coming through, but I plan to wash it and I think that it will be perfect.
The backing is a fabric I bought from Bernie at Needle and Foot. She is fabulous and the fabric was a dark blue color weave by PB Textiles. It is one of the extra wide backs, and I often buy remnants when I see them as they work perfectly for one or two benefit quilts!
