2020 Monthly Color Challenge – July

Today is the premier of Block #7 for the Monthly Block Challenge by Patterns by Jen. As are all the blocks in Jen’s challenge, they are based on a bird. This month’s bird was the robin and the color is rust.

 Joseph Mahoney/Audubon Photography Awards

So many of us wait for robins as the first sign of spring (at list in the northern states). I have always loved that robin blue egg but was saddened and surprised to find that squirrels go after them. I guess I never knew squirrels went after eggs!

The block is easy and the directions are fabulous. I had a lack of choices in colors, so I am definitely on the redder side of rust with my colors, but that is the way it goes sometimes. I am looking forward to laying them all out.

I jumped over to Electric Quilt and put in photos of my blocks. The border is Aura by Mister Domestic. It’s rather fun with this fabric, although I will also look for a more juvenile or geometric print. This kind of quilt often is donated, so I like to keep that in mind. I did like the gray and red with the blocks last year, but maybe something else will cross my mind as we get closer.

For fun, I put it on the background fabric I used a few weeks ago. I love that the touch of coral in the fabric is perfect with this block. Jen has the instructions, so be sure to visit her site. There are other bloggers, too, blogging on the first, so check them out.

Pretty block. I could not find where to get the block pattern. Is it something we have to sign up for?

Great idea using EQ to lay out the blocks so you can see them together! With that blue background, the block almost looks patriotic; perfect for July!

It does look patriotic – even among the narwhals!

Some Robins are more ‘red’ than others. I think your block is really pretty.

Hi Kathleen! You block is gorgeous and it looks especially fletching on that blue background fabric. It really does pull those tiny pops of coral out in it. Nice job! ~smile~ Roseanne

Love your fabrics for this block! And I’m pleased to say that this post and the lighthouse one came through on blogloin, so the earlier problem was user error (me).

I know I have dropped some blogs occasionally on Bloglovin and have them in folders. Reorganizing them is more of a chore than I’d like. I think they need a little updating on how its managed, but mostly it works.

I love hearing from you and reply promptly to each comment by email. I will publish replies if there is something that is helpful to the readers of my blog.
