Once again Jen of Patterns by Jen has come up with a fabulous block for May. This month’s color is green (see in the picture above) and is in honor of the Budgerigar. Now, I don’t know much about this bird except it looks like what I would call a parakeet.
It is in fact, upon further research it is a parakeet and maybe native to Australia. Seems we have been domesticating these birds for quite sometime. My grandmother had a parakeet, but I don’t remember its coloring much. It is a fun inspiration as it seems we all have encountered budgerigars throughout our lives. They do have a following and some refer to them as “budgies” which seems rather sweet.
Anway, lets get back to this block. It is fun to put 2 half square triangles together in a different way and get a different kind of shape. I love the way the triangles move across this block. My only caution if you are still working on it is watch the direction of the HST when attaching the plain square (top of page 2). It would be so easy to put this together wrong. The link below will be live when the linkup at Jen’s is live. For now, the first picture will take you to her blog and the entry on May’s block.
Next month, I will blog on the 1st of the month along with a group of other bloggers. It is fun to be a bit ahead (if only by a week or so), but the good news is that one is ready, too! I love these blocks as they are fast and fun and a lovely way to do something a bit different from your other projects. AND, there are sponsors and quarterly prizes, so its not to late to get in on the fun!
