Awesome Ocean Block 7

Welcome to Block 7 the Awesome Ocean Sew Along (#AOSAL) and Tony the Turtle. Today we do have a guest host so be sure to check out Emily’s hints at The Darling Dogwood!

As a reminder, the Awesome Ocean pattern was written by Elizabeth Hartman and this sew along encourages you to purchase her pattern (information below) and learn f\rom my mistakes (you can see the links for prior blocks below or at the top of this page).

Hint 1: Fabric Considerations for this block:
Nothing Special
Hint 2: Time to Prep/Make Block:
Prep time is about 1/2 – 3/4 hour of cutting and about 3/4 to 1 hour of
sewing.

Hint 3: Look at the instructions because you will want to trim!
Hint 4: Trim the Eyes
I didn’t – so I have turtles with eyes that are a little bigger. It is just fine but you may prefer to trim as instructed on the top of page 16, Figure 2! I’m highlighting the next pattern next time to see if that works.

I decided to pin mine to a background so you could see my placement. Right now, I am planning on using Elizabeth’s layout. Here’s a mockup, waiting for new pics, in EQ8.

It is not too late to get started, so here’s what you need to play along:
1. Get the pattern from my amazon affiliate link* or
from  the designer directly or in your local store.
2. The links are updated below for any completed blocks.

Here’s the updated calendar for blocks and guest bloggers!

Here’s the linky party – for blocks 6, 7 & 8! I needed to change this due to the other linky party I am running on the 22nd of each month, so there will be one linky for the month for the Awesome Ocean blocks (unless I figure something else out). It will be on each page so you don’t need to worry!

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

Your turtles are looking good! See? Even you think it’s an otter, according to your notes! More about that in my post in a week or so. 🙂

Those Elizabeth Hartman eye pieces get me every time! I’m currently working on her penguin pattern. It’s coming together beautifully but the face and eyes have taken a lot of time! Your turtles look great Kathleen! I’ve been enjoying watching your progress!!

It was so odd, one was nearly perfect and one wasn’t – I should have checked for the trimming but I just forgot once I got going. Now I am highlighting so we’ll see if I remember.

Oh, thanks. I am loving doing it and can’t wait to finish. More importantly, I can’t wait to hold my sweet grandniece!

The sea turtles were really fun…and it is looking good together. I got the idea of adding more bubbles after Emily took them off one of hers. I don’t know if it will happen….
