Been Busy in the Quilting Studio

I am loving these last few weeks of summer. In Casco Bay, we had some very thick fog on date night – a little more mystery and intrigue! It also reminds me how grateful I am for radar when we have a night like that – you couldn’t see far at all.

Anyway, right now I have little projects and one large one just added to my plate. That being said, I think the pace for the upcoming fall will be good. I’ll show a little bit about what I have been doing.

Our Sew Let’s QAL is nearing an end. I finished block 13 and the small project. I can’t show you either of them, until Tuesday the 27th. However, here is a peek at the finished project. I am loving being a little ahead…it always seems like a major achievement. You can find this QAL on the Partners In Design Facebook page or under the tab Sew Let’sQAL on my blog. All the patterns are still available, but some may not be at the end of the hop (September 24th the grand prize winner is selected). You could still do the Segment 3 projects and be eligible for that prize if you hurry.

I am cutting and sewing Sherry’s Barn BOM and am loving it. I have a little package of pieces, some HST that are sewn together and the rest are all cut for Block 1. I am off to a little gathering tomorrow so I should make more headway on it – I expect to have it done by weeks end. Updates are the first Wednesday of the month, Sept. 1. Get the pattern here* and some fabric and hop on board! It is a great quilt. I used my Sizzix Big Shot and its dies to cut much of it and am really happy. (My Accuquilt Go* is elsewhere). If you have questions about die cutting ask – I am newer but I love it and happy to help convert you!

I am testing out my block for the September Island Batik challenge. Above is a picture of one test block before it is sewn. I am still working on the design, but its coming along. Its not a big quilt, so finalizing it will be fun. This was cut with the Accuquilt die called Crossed Canoes. It is a 9” finished block. I have a three to make, but am missing one tiny piece. I hope it resurfaces, but I think I will make a little table runner from these blocks. I have to design the other quilt, and am working on that. Speaking of Island Batik, there are new quilts this week too for the Beat the Heat Blog Hop AND giveaways through Island Batik and the ambassadors – mine is here – and many are open through the end of the month.

This may be the tea I use for my Tea Challenge quilt in our bee. The exercise is to make a quilt based on the name of a tea. Well, this may be the one striking my fancy! I drew up a little thing in EQ8* – now to hunt around for fabric and finalize the design. Our quilt show is the first weekend in October, and this will be small and fun. I was going to do one called “Sleep With Me” but it was more of a movie or novel or short story – not a quilt.

I did get some great news that there will be some secret sewing for spring quilt market! I am super excited – one of my designs will be in the Island Batik catalog…..a first for me.

Interesting photo of the night fog! I’m interested to see what your fabrics are for the barn quilt bom. Congrats on your design being in the catalog. I’m looking forward to seeing that. Design a quilt based off the name of a tea? Hmm. Interesting.

It was really thick that night. When it comes over the old trees, you know it is a dense fog! I am so excited about the catalog. I will let you know which one soon. The challenge is kind of fun, isn’t it! Do you have a tea name you would use?

Hi Kathleen! Ooh, I deal with fog very often now on my drive in to work. Whenever the dew point and temperature are near each other we get fog, especially in low lying areas. It’s a little spooky at 4:50 am to see fog on the side of the roadway. You’ve got a lot going on! I love that canoe block – it kinds of makes me think of jacks – the spikes I guess. I’ll be happy to see these projects as you finish them. ~smile~ Roseanne

Again more fog tonight! It is that time of year. That canoe block will be fun and jacks certainly crossed my mine. You can also almost get swords but I am not sure I want to go there. Thinking cap is still on…lets hope I don’t fry it.

Yay for you and just love the foggy photo, perfect for a cover for a mystery novel. I thought I had the Canoe Die but according to my list I don’t. Better check before I order plus want to see your finish.

Its not the best photo but it works. I do love the fog…we have it again tonight and I’m going to hear hubby sing in a “classical” concert. I am sure I’ll like the canoe die – I will let you know later this week!
