Sew Let’s QAL – Block 11

Beccas Fenstermaker of Pretty Piney Quilts has created an awesome block for you. Our Partners in Design designers are just so fab and have such great ideas. I love this block called “By the Bolt”. Honestly, the hardest thing was picking fabric; this block continues with using my Island Batik scraps for this segment.

On to my hints to help you with this block!

Hint: Label your pattern with your fabrics in the order you want!

I found this made it so much easier when cutting/trimming fabric. I could do the same size strips together then place them in order again.

Hint: Finger Press open seams

I don’t love open seams. I finger pressed these before going to the iron – it makes it easier.

Hint: Chain stitch bolt strips on bolts in the order they will appear. DO NOT CUT APART.

Chain stitching worked like a charm. Once the bolt strips were on, I took the pieces then to the iron, and then sewed them together. It worked like webbing a quilt, but just stopped the errors caused by picking up the wrong ones. Yes, I could have done them by pairs and it would have been faster. If you do this, you may need to clip the chained thread when pressing open the seams…easy peasy.

Other than that, I think you are good to go! Below you will find the other hosts and the links to their take on this block. Our hosts below have great hints – check them out.

I love the idea of putting the pieces in order once and webbing them together. That way they can’t get mixed up even if they want to!
