OMG – June already! and some other news

quick_layer_cake_005

This quilt, which I have referred to as Rainbow Rectangles, will be my OMG. I only have to quilt it and want to work on my quilting skills on my new machine (a blog on her later).

I love the OMG linkup at Elm Street Quilts! It really helps me keep motivated and get a few more projects done. Can I say how good that feels! When I look at my list of UFOs, many of the old projects that have been hanging around forever are gone. I began probably 4 years ago, trying to clear them out and I have….its really an awesome thing. I am now getting to what I call PROs – Projects that I have wanted to do but not yet begun. That, too, is a good feeling!

My aunt did really well with her surgery so I was able to schedule the delivery of my new machine for this week. It happened today; there will be a complete post later but here she is at work.

It will take some getting used to for the loading of the machine.  There are two ways; one is a clamp and one is a new roller system.  I just did a quick square today with rulers and loved it.  The last 1/4 of the piece went so much faster.  Tomorrow, I have a table runner to work on, while I think about serious reorganization.

Some things to look forward to:
Behind the scenes works for the QAL
More quilting
Throwback Thursday
A washing experiment
Thought to reality – how does a quilt happen

I know – it was pretty fast. I am ready to do another small piece today….trying to figure out which is the best way to load the table runner – clamps or rails. They sent superior thread with the machine, but I don’t think there is a recommended thread. I have a cone of Aurifil 50 and a 50wt with 3 ply to try too. I think the shop is getting me thread samples too. The “stuff” takes up even more space than the other stuff!

The installer was terrific and I am ready to start project number 2 – the accompanying table runner to the little piece. Tomorrow will be a quilt!

Hi Kathleen! Oooh! I’m so excited for you. Can’t wait to read all the details about the new Miss HQ, and her first few practice runs. It is nice that your aunt is still doing so well. That really is the best news of all. ~smile~ Roseanne

My aunt is amazing. She was home in 1 day (typical) and insisting on going out to lunch and dinner the next day. How amazing is that – it was more like a vacation than a nursing stint. And about the machine wow, is all I can say Roseanne! It is a dream come true and already 2 small quilts done. Now, truthfully, I could have done them in less time on my domestic machine, but the doing of them is so much fun – larger stippling was so much easier. I will maybe try a panto on the next, although I am not in love with the one I have, but I do want to get it done!

I am having so much fun with the new machine. Not really doing anything new just yet, but learning her quirks and mine!

Congrats on the new machine! Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and good luck with your project.

Thanks, Patty. I’m so enjoying the machine and plotting how to quilt the rainbow. I’m thinking it will be with different motifs in each rectangle or row.

It is fabulous. I have 2 things quilted and one in the works, I am so pleased! Much more to learn and practice, but it is so much easier.

A simple patchwork such as Rainbow Rectangles is a perfect background to show off your quilting designs. I am looking forward to the finished product. I am sure you will enjoy every minute with your new machine.

I can’t wait to try it. I have a new machine and some skills from Christina Camelli’s class that I hope to use. I just have to decide if it is a different motif in each row (most likely) or each block (less likely), but we’ll see what the quilt tells me when I get to it!

So excited to see this baby here! There is a wealth of info online as well from HQ and other HG-ers. I am completely self-taught as I bought my Avanté second hand off eBay. It will be fun to see your OMG!

I am loving it. I have watched most of the HQ videos on this machine (and other topics). Have to get my hands past the wobble as I try new motifs, but I think that will happen pretty quickly. Beothuk Star is getting a panto, which was a good way to practice getting that set up. I did get 90% of the bells & whistles – except the prostitcher. One learning curve at a time is a good thing for me.

I love hearing from you and try to reply promptly to each comment.
