Wow, did that go by fast? It seemed that just yesterday we began the QAL and now we are pausing after presenting Block 5 to show you some small projects. You can see my project, but an explanation is warranted.
I was going to make a cover for this baby! It is due to arrive to the island in Maine that I spend half my time at very soon, BUT not yet. Like my son, its being a little stubborn on its arrival, so I wait. That meant, I had to change plans. I did take a top to my friend’s but hers is and 18″ machine and on rails so it’s all a little different than this picture.
My friend, Dione who blogs at Clever Chameleon, has a great tutorial on her cover (and I may repeat that with these blocks (or similar), once I am fully set up – I am adding rear handles because I will be able to do pantos!!! So meantime, I can dream but you can check out her instructions if that is what you want to do. It will work for nearly any machine!

- Blocks 3 & 4

- Sandwich Quilt
- Quilt (pictures below with how I quilted.
- Attach “Hanging triangles” to top right and left corner
- Attach binding (I sewed mine all by machine).
Quilted 1/4 around machine, loops in background, used invisible thread for the squiggle quilting and in the screen. I quilted a straight line thought he lines in the ruler.
Invisible straight lines next to the dark ruler registrations, and loopy quilting in the outside area of the grid.
Quilted on the lines on the shelf and around each spool of thread on the edge.
Shingles were quilted into the roof, stones or path lines on sidewalk.
Followed the curves of the pattern for the background of the mug, and quilted inside the mug.
This was a fast project – and I enjoyed the quilting. I do know I will use this on the door to my studio (note the “quilt shop” is Kathleen’s Quilting Studio or as a machine cover. I can’t wait to see what you create.
