I got a lot done this week. First up is getting some blocks put together for Sherry @ Powered by Quilting “Hidden Stars SAL”. I generally have two reasons for doing a QAL or SAL:
1. It must use stash. I won a number of these fat quarters a few years ago. My general idea is when I win, I try to give back. This quilt will be one of my quilt donations for Hands2Help (not too late to join in).
2. I must love something else about it – the designer, the pattern, or the intrigue! I tested this pattern for Sherry – so I am a fan and love supporting her work.
A group of quilters, known as Partners in Design began our third QAL this week – Sew Let’s QAL!. The patterns are free through the duration of the QAL, and then some designers may publish them. This is the first block by Sandra – SandraHealeyesigns. Lots of keeping up with the website and comments – something I love to do.
This quilt took up a lot of my time. This is a preview of my Island Batik Ambassador project for March – you should see it by the end of the week as a finished project. I am using checkerboard quilts as my inspiration. The fabrics from Island Batik are so much fun and foundations bubblegum pink, check it out and grey are so fun to work with.
Funny thing happened on the way to this quilt. I was hanging it up to proudly take a photo of the piece and I noticed one of the lattice pieces was wrong – only 2 star points rather than the 4 it needed. What’s a nice quilter like me to do? Well, after a tiny bit of swearing (ok not so tiny) I decided surgical removal was the way to go. I could have taken out 2 rows but why???? So I took the piece out and inserted the new one. Its a great technique! I also miscalculated the pieces I needed – forgot that I was not using a square cut in half so I needed 160 not 80 squares…fabric arrives tomorrow. Thank for Four Pines Quilting in Claremont NH for your quick response!
I am participating in this – #30quiltdesigns2019 by Sandra @mmm!Quilts. She is so much fun and such a sweet person. Last year I did a few and have yet to make any quilts from my designs but someday I will. Anyone can play, and you don’t have to do all of them – so going the party. I am excited for this year, as my Electric Quilt 8* habit (the printing is the bomb on the new update!)and new iPad will be great tools for me.. Because it is designers designing it is a private facebook group so you won’t see them until I do something with them – hopefully I can make a goal of making one or two in the next year. [EQ8 just updated, and the printing now has the project name and pattern pieces are visible on a page!]
This quilt – I affectionately refer to as grey goose – has borders now and a backing. The binding is cut – it just needs to be sewn together and QUILTING. I am hoping to finish it before the end of the month, but not sure I will squeeze that quilting time in Friday or Saturday – we’ll see.
My plans this week include: Island Batik project, Project Quilting, design work, cut April Island Batik & Fat Quarter Shop charity quilt (for work in NH sew weekend) and I am sure there is more. Have a productive week, and I think you may hear from me at least one more time this week… hooray!
