My Quilting Week in Review….

fullsizeoutput_1467

First, I want to say welcome to the new readers of my blog.  Some of you have joined up due to the Island Batik blog hop and giveaway.  Thank you.

Today’s blog is about what went on last week, when I wasn’t keeping up with the comments on my blog! This quilt is now ready to be quilted.  It will be entered in the Rising Star Quilt Guild Show on October 5 & 6.  Our bee, the Sewatorium Sisters, challenged ourselves to make a beach themed quilt using fabrics each of us donated.  Above is a picture of all the fabrics – each used in multiple spots in this quilt.

fullsizeoutput_14b4A few things have been added to this polaroid quilt since the picture.  I captioned the photos, but a minor error means a piece needs to be replaced.  The white fabric was in Maine, the quilt in Massachusetts, so it will happen at the end of this week.  I also added a blue piece at the top and put “At the Beach” as a title.  The backing and batting too is ready.  It will be a very quick quilting job.  At the moment I am not sure if I am binding or facing the quilt – I will decide soon.

I made my star!   It is a little version – officially a mini!   It is 8 1/2″ square.  I wanted to test a small version before I did it in the batiks I have chosen.  I also needed a measurement as it will replace a quilt currently hanging in our living room.

I am back to doing the exercises in the #365DaysOfArt Challenge.  Rather than do a whole entry I will include some as a slide show every (hoping to stay at once a week).

The winner of my Sweet Tweets bundle for the Great Blog Hop is Nancy B from Grace and Peace Quilting -how sweet is that!

Here are my goals for the week:
1.  Cut out some pieces for my indigo quilt.  You can read more about it here.
2.  Replace caption, sandwich, quilt the “At the Beach”.
3.  Begin the Island Batik Star quilt.
4.  Work on designing October challenge.
5.  Maybe Block 2 for TishNWonderland QAL.

This should keep me out of trouble!!

Yay, glad it was Nancy! Oh, your star mini turned out fabulous! I also love how the Maine quilt is progressing. That one will be super duper special; I hope it wins a ribbon!!

It was fun to see Nancy’s name pop up! Thanks, now on to make a larger one (just found out wall quilt is 40” not 36” like I thought….Borders? or make it smaller? Decisions – don’t think I want 4 of one size (there are a lot of pieces! I don’t think I’ll win a ribbon, but maybe my mermaid sighting will put me over the top. Have a great week.

Wow, I can’t believe I won! Thank you, Kathleen!!! I love all the interesting details in your beach quilt. And your star block–that was quite a feat, making it 8″ square!

Yay for Nancy! So glad she won — you know she’ll make something grand with her winnings! I notice you snuck a Minnesota loon in your quilt blocks! Haha 🙂 Hope you have a great week, Kathleen!

It was fun to see someone’s name I know pop up! Now you know we have loons on the East Coast too, don’t you. I’ll try to get a picture of one on the ferry someday – although they tend to keep their distance.

Your mini star looks great! It will be fabulous in batiks, too. And your beach themed polaroid quilt is so darling, I love it! 🙂

I am loving that star and looking forward to getting started on the big one. I think I want to work on it all on one machine, so I will wait until tomorrow when I am near my Bernina! The polaroid needs to get finished, too, but that will be a quick finish – it doesn’t require much quilting (hooray).

Your polaroid block is perfect for the beach theme! Your star is so pretty! It will look great in batiks!
